POST TITLE: Home Care Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager / Proprietor

THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:  is to work as part of a small team of home care workers providing quality personal assistance in order to meet the needs of individual service users living in their own homes, whilst promoting independence and not total reliance on assistance from others.
To provide quality care in accordance with agreed care plans and assessments.
Tasks do not include those that would normally be undertaken by a trained nurse.
At all times, a home care assistant must comply with TruCare’s guidelines and policies.

DUTIES OF A HOME CARE WORKER:
1. To assist people to get up in the morning, washing / bathing / dressing. Helping to undress and assisting into bed in the evening.
2. To make meals, drinks, snacks where needed
3. To provide assistance with toileting / change clothes and or bedding where necessary; empty commodes / incontinence management / catheter care
4. Assist with laundry / washing up
5. Assistance with other daily living tasks such as shopping / pension collection / housework / paying bills
6. Recording information on sheets / in diaries where appropriate
7. Putting out medication and recording such information on sheets
8. Reporting of changes in health / or circumstances of the individual to the manager of TruCare
9. Be aware of what to do in an emergency
10. Comply with current legislation regarding health & safety and moving & handling
11. Have appropriate knowledge and training of aids and equipment used by individuals including moving & handling training.
12. To undergo such training as is necessary to carry out the duties of a home care assistant.
13. To promote equality for all individuals
14. To maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to TruCare and it’s service users
15. To attend team meetings and training sessions as requested by the manager
